2 sisters and Their Mutt!

Myah is getting more and more settled in each day. Over the last week, Josh went back to work. All 3 of us girls (Addie included) have been adjusting to life at home.

Myah had a lot of visitors last week which kept me and Addie entertained. The Retka grandparents stopped by for a visit. Grandma Sharon and Myah spent some quality time together while I did a few errands.

Addie has been a little extra protective of our family since Myah arrived and barks at passers by each day, just make sure that they know that she's on guard. You can see that this is taking a toll on her (pic below).

Last Friday we also learned that Myah has a little bit of 'reflux'. It is really common for babies to have reflux and it typically goes away after about 6 months. This has not deterred her from eating her full portions, as she weighed in at 9lbs 5oz last Friday, up 1.5lbs since birth. Go Myah!

Josh and I have tried to get back into our routine as much as possible. We went to Trader Joe's on Saturday to do some grocery shopping and watched the Vikes lose on Sunday :(

Josh and I are also trying to get out and do some activities solo and as a couple. Josh went to the Vikes game last Sunday and I went out to lunch with my friend, Cristina, this Sunday. Next Saturday we have a date night while the Olsen grandparents babysit. Should be fun!

Myah's Adventures!

Well, Myah had an exciting week of 'firsts'.

She had her first bath. We had given her some sponge baths the first week, but needed to wait for her umbilical cord to fall out before giving her a 'real' bath. She seemed to actually enjoy the bath and getting squeaky clean!

Myah also met her Great-Grandma Hildegarde for the first time. My grandma, mom, Myah and me took a 4 generation picture. Myah slept in her Great-Grandma's arms for the entire visit. Although fast asleep, Myah received a lot of attention from the people working and living at the assisted living center, too.

Lastly, Myah celebrated her Grandpa Olsen's Birthday. It was a pretty low key celebration, but Myah was awake for most it. She gave her Grandpa a special present just from her, too. You can ask my Dad about that later :)

Hope you're all having a good week! Katy

Family Comes For a Visit!

Both sets of grandparents came to visit Baby Myah this weekend. Grandma Olsen babysat Myah while Josh and I had our first date on Saturday afternoon. We went out to for lunch and made a quick trip to Menard's and Target. It was a BIG day :) For the rest of the day and night, Grandma stayed over and was able to offer an extra hand around the house and over night!

Both Grandma and Grandpa Retka stopped over for a visit on Sunday afternoon. We had a nice visit and watched the NFL playoffs. Myah slept most of the afternoon in her Little Lamb papasan. She finally woke up and let Grandma Retka hold her for a few minutes.

Myah's cousins came by for a visit, too. They met Myah for the first time and brought pizza to celebrate. Max and McKenzie helped their mom make a beautiful blanket for Baby Myah. It is pink with polka dots and monkeys! We're sure to get lots of use out of it.

We continue to learn more about Myah everyday. She has been a great sleeper and gives us a good 2 stretches of 3 to 4 hours of sleep each night. We hope this is a pattern, but are not getting our hopes up too high. Myah also continues to be a very healthy eater. This is great, because we have already received permission to bottle feed and give her a pacifier! So far, so good! She is already filling out a little bit and is changing every day! She looks so different from the day she was born!

Addie is continuing to adjust to her new baby sister. She has been a little attention needy and usually sits on my foot or leans against my leg when I'm feeding Myah.

Hope all is well in the 'real world'! Katy

Our Little Baracuda!

Today was Myah's first pediatrician appointment. They were incredibly pleased with Myah's weight gain. She was up 5oz from her birth weight (7lbs 13oz to 8lbs 2oz). Our little girl is about ready to outgrow her newborn size clothing! Yikes!

We learned that her feeding type is called 'Baracuda'. She is a fast, furious, and hungry little eater. Luckily, she only feeds every 3 to 6 hours so that mom can rest.

To celebrate we went to Target, our first family outing.

Upon returing home we took our first family photo. Myah, was a little unhappy, she was hoping for a feeding and we were trying to get some snapshots :)

Love,
Katy

Some of our new favorite pics.

She's arrived !!! Myah Jane-Hildegarde Retka !!

I knew something was up !! And now I've figured it out. Katy and Josh brought home a beautiful baby girl on Sunday. They told me she was born on New Years day around 4 PM, weighted 7 pounds 13 oz and measured 21 inches long.

I was introduced to Myah on Sunday when Josh and Katy brought her home. I thought she smelled pretty good, but the best part was that I got 2 milk bones and a raw hide, I think to distract me for a bit.

Josh and Katy were a bit worried how I'd take to Myah, they know that I like kids and have been great with my human cousins, but they said 'You never know'. They needn't worry, while I'm not that interested in Myah now, I've got a feeling she'll be dropping lots of Cheerios on the floor for me in the near future, so I'm cool with her.

Anyway, Mom and Dad are setting in at home this week. What rocks is that I heard them say that Katy will be home for 12 weeks with me ( oh and I guess Myah too) and Josh will be home for 2 weeks, just to transition into human parenthood (they're already pretty good dog owners/parents).

They keep saying that it is pretty crazy to be a human parent, but I know they'll do great !! They've been pretty good to me over the past 4.5 years. Heck, I almost thought I was a human child the way they treated me :)

Well, I just heard Myah singing a song ( that what Josh says when Myah cries), she probably needs some lunch, and that means I have to go on watch duty. That's my new favorite thing to do, protect Mom while she feeds Myah.

Ruff,

Addie Olsen Retka
